BookExpo Announces Children’s Book & Author Breakfast Speakers

On January 19, BookExpo announced the four authors who will be featured at its 2018 Children’s Book & Author Breakfast, to be held on Friday, June 1, at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.

“As one of the most anticipated events each year, the Children’s Book & Author Breakfast attracts a large audience looking to discover breakout talent in the world of children’s and young adult literature and we know that this year’s speakers will not disappoint,” said Brien McDonald, event director of BookExpo. “With works ranging in topics from immigration to growing up, each of these authors is exploring what it means to belong in a unique and pivotal way that is sure to lead to an unforgettable conversation.”

The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on the Main Stage and will feature:

• Jacqueline Woodson, author of The Day You Begin and The Dream of America (Penguin Young Readers)
• Dave Eggers, author of What Can a Citizen Do? (Chronicle Books)
• Yuyi Morales, author of Dreamers (Neal Porter Books/Holiday House Publishing, Inc.)
• Meg Medina, author of Merci Suarez Changes Gears (Candlewick Press)

The event’s host will be announced at a later date, as will a surprise special guest.

American Booksellers Association member booksellers can register for free badges to BookExpo by providing an ABA member ID number during the registration process. Booksellers who don’t know their ID number should send a request with their name, title, and store name to [email protected] or call (800) 637-0037, ext. 7536.

Thanks to a significant financial commitment from Reed Exhibitions, ABA member booksellers can reserve rooms at the 2018 Hotel ABA — The New Yorker, a Wyndham Hotel — at a rate of $200 per night, including all taxes and fees (a $33 per night added value). The ABA member hotel rate is available for the nights of Sunday, May 27, through Sunday, June 3, 2018; however, the room block is limited and reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The New Yorker Hotel is located at 481 Eighth Avenue in New York City, between 34th and 35th Streets. To access Hotel ABA reservation information, booksellers will need a BookWeb username and password (e-mail [email protected] for login details). The deadline to get this rate is May 14, 2018, or when the block sells out, whichever comes first.

BookExpo 2018 will be held from Wednesday, May 30, through Friday, June 1, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
