Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:
Avoid the Day Bookstore, Bar, & Cafe opened in Rockaway Beach, New York, on February 1.
Busboys and Poets will open a new location in Charles Village in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Avid Reader in Davis, California, is under new ownership. A celebration and reception will be held on February 21.
Mysterious Galaxy Books will reopen in a new location in Point Loma, San Diego.
Sassafras on Sutton in Black Mountain, North Carolina, has expanded its location to include a second floor.
Kepler’s Books & Magazines in Menlo Park, California, is celebrating 65 years of business. This year is also a milestone year for the Kepler’s 2020 project.
Back of Beyond Books in Moab, Utah, is celebrating 30 years.
Hannah Oliver Depp of Loyalty Bookstore in Washington, D.C., shared her “D.C. Dream Day” with The Washington Post.
DL Mullen of Semicolon Bookstore in Chicago, Illinois, was featured in a segment on Chicago creatives on WBEZ.
Kazoo Books in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was featured in an article called “Don’t judge this store by its cover: Kazoo Books is one of Oakwood’s quiet successes.”
Fabled Bookshop & Café in Waco, Texas, was featured in an article on the store’s success.
The Lit. Bar in the Bronx, New York, was highlighted in the articles “Noelle Santos Quit Her Day Job to Open Lit. Bar, in the Bronx,” and “A Look Inside The Lit. Bar.”
Powell’s Books in Portland was highlighted in the article “Oregon Is Home to the World’s Largest New and Used Independent Bookstore and It’s Amazing!”
Women and Children First and Sandmeyer’s Bookstore were named among the top five bookstores in Chicago.
